The Glass Lifting Company Builders Call When the Lift Gets Tricky

A glass lifting company has to do more than hire out a crane. It has to look at a courtyard, a 750mm doorway and a 300kg panel and tell you exactly how it’s going in.

Narrowtech Cranes is a glass lifting company based in Erina on the Central Coast. We’ve spent more than 20 years in crane operations and rigging, completed over 500 projects, and built our reputation on the lifts other crews would rather hand off. Glass is a big part of that work, and it’s the lift we take most seriously, because there are no second chances once a panel is cracked.

We work with glaziers, builders and homeowners across the Central Coast, Newcastle and Sydney.

Who We Are

We’re a specialist lifting company, not a general crane hire yard. Our whole setup is built around tight access: compact electric cranes, non-marking tracks, vacuum lifting gear and a crew of ticketed riggers and certified operators who know how to use them.

That focus is deliberate. The jobs we’re best at are the ones where a conventional crane won’t fit, won’t be allowed, or would do more damage than the lift is worth. Terrace renovations behind heritage facades. Glass going into occupied homes. Skylights under power lines. Panels with millimetres to spare.

When you call us, you talk to someone who has run the gear on real sites. That makes the first conversation faster, the quote more accurate and the lift day a lot calmer.

Why Glaziers and Builders Choose Us

There are plenty of glass lifting companies out there. Here’s what keeps builders and glass companies coming back to us instead of shopping the lift around.

01. We Plan Before We Lift

Every job starts with a proper look at the site. We check access, ground, finishes and overhead hazards, then build a lift plan around what we find. Nothing gets left to guesswork on the day.

02. We Fit Where Others Don’t

Our mini cranes travel through standard doorways, down side passages and onto balconies. That means we can set up close to the install point, which gives better control and less risk than lifting from the street.

03. We Protect the Finishes

Glass usually goes in late in a build. Our non-marking rubber tracks and floor protection mean polished concrete, timber, tiles and new driveways stay exactly how the trades left them.

04. We Work Clean and Quiet

Our electric cranes produce zero emissions and low noise. We’re approved to work inside occupied buildings, basements and sensitive sites where a diesel machine isn’t an option.

05. We Turn Up When We Say We Will

Glass is often on the critical path. If it doesn’t go in, the next trades can’t start. We hit the booked time, work to your induction and finish inside the window.

The Equipment Behind the Work

A glass lifting company is only as good as the gear it brings to site. We keep a focused fleet, with every machine chosen for jobs where standard plant doesn’t cut it.

Our Hoeflon C6e mini spider crane does the bulk of our glass work. It’s fully electric, lifts up to 3 tonnes and folds down small enough to fit through a 750mm doorway. For heavier units and longer reaches we run the 4-tonne C10e and the 9-tonne C30, and our Maeda 285 and 305 crawler cranes round out the fleet for wet or dry hire.

Each crane can be paired with our vacuum lifting attachment, which holds the glass by its face so no one has to grip the edges. And when the panel needs to travel from the truck to the crane across lawns or narrow side paths, our TC1 track load carrier takes the weight instead of your crew.

How We Work With Glass Companies

A lot of our work comes from glaziers and glass companies who want a lifting partner they can rely on job after job. The arrangement is simple. You handle the glass, the measurements and the fitting. We handle the access, the crane and the lift.

Over time that relationship gets faster. We learn how your crews like to work, what your typical panels weigh and how you sequence an install. You get to quote glass jobs with confidence, knowing the awkward ones won’t stall at the gate. It also means you can build the lift straight into your own quotes for heavy or tight access work, with a clear price and a crew you already know.

Licensed, Insured and Documented

Builders and site managers need more than a good operator. They need the paperwork to match. We’re fully licensed and insured, and our lift plans, SWMS and certifications come standard on every job. If your site has its own induction process or documentation requirements, tell us early and we’ll have everything ready before the crane arrives.

A Safety Record Built on Habits

Our 100% safety record isn’t luck. It’s the result of doing the same things, the same way, on every single job.

That means documented lift plans and SWMS on every lift. Ticketed riggers managing the lift zone. Pre-start checks on cranes and vacuum lifters. A test lift before every panel goes up properly. And a crew that will stop and reassess if something on site isn’t right, no matter how tight the program is.

For our clients, that habit shows up as fewer delays, fewer reorders and no nasty surprises. For the glass, it means getting to its frame in one piece.

What Our Clients Say

We’d rather let the people we work with do the talking.

“Narrowtech were absolutely brilliant. We had a tricky glass install on a luxury coastal build, tight courtyard, polished concrete floors. They got in, got it done without a single mark, and the boys were super professional. Won’t use anyone else.”

Michael T., Builder, Rival Construction

“Had a 300+kg skylight to install with power lines overhead and next to no room to manoeuvre. The Narrowtech team assessed it straight away and had a solution sorted. Executed perfectly. These guys are proper professionals.”

Daniel W., Director, Brisbane Water Glass

Recent Glass Lifts

We post a steady stream of jobs on Instagram, because the work explains itself better than we can. A few recent glass lifts:

  • West Pennant Hills: high-end residential glazing with a few access challenges, completed without fuss
  • Central Coast: a 350kg skylight lifted into place with power lines overhead and a tight setup area
  • Boutique residential build: panels over 300kg placed by the C6e with only millimetres to spare
  • Tight window job: full lift completed in and out inside an eight-hour access window

Questions to Ask Any Glass Lifting Company

Not every crane operator is set up for glass. Before you book anyone, these questions will help you tell the difference:

  • Do you use a vacuum lifter, and is it rated for the weight of my heaviest panel?
  • Can your crane reach the install point from where it can actually set up?
  • Will your machine fit through the access, and will it mark the floors on the way in?
  • Do you supply a lift plan and SWMS, and will your crew complete my site induction?
  • Are your operators and riggers ticketed and experienced with glass?
  • Are you fully licensed and insured?
  • Can you work indoors or in an occupied building if needed?

We’re happy to answer every one of these on the first call.

Wet Hire and Dry Hire Options

Most glass clients take our wet hire service, with crane, vacuum lifter and certified operator supplied together. It’s the safest option when panels are heavy, expensive or going somewhere awkward. For ticketed crews who are confident with compact cranes, selected machines are also available on dry hire.

Where We Work

Our yard is at 220 The Entrance Rd, Erina, and our crews travel right across NSW. We regularly work on the Central Coast, in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, the Hunter Valley, and throughout Sydney and Greater Sydney. If your site is outside those areas, ask us anyway.

Being based on the Central Coast puts us in a good spot to cover both directions. We can be on a Gosford or Terrigal site first thing, or head north to Newcastle and the Hunter, or south into Sydney’s northern suburbs and beyond. Coastal homes, hillside blocks, inner-city terraces and commercial fitouts all bring their own access challenges, and we’ve lifted glass on all of them. Distance is rarely the hard part of a job. Access usually is, and that’s the problem we’re built to solve.

    Glass Lifting Company FAQs

What is the biggest crane company in Australia?

Australia's largest crane companies run national fleets of mobile, crawler and tower cranes for major infrastructure, mining and high-rise projects. For most glass installs, though, size isn't what you need. A specialist glass lifting company with compact cranes, vacuum lifters and tight access experience is usually a better fit for residential, boutique commercial and fitout work, where getting close to the install point matters more than raw capacity.

What are the Australian standards for lifting equipment?

Lifting equipment in Australia is covered by several standards. The AS 2550 series deals with the safe use of cranes, hoists and winches, the AS 1418 series covers crane design, and AS 4991 covers lifting devices such as vacuum lifters and lifting beams. On top of that, work health and safety laws require competent, appropriately licensed operators and safe systems of work. A professional glass lifting company should be able to explain how its equipment and processes meet these requirements.

How much to hire a crane in Australia?

Crane hire prices in Australia vary widely depending on crane size, hire duration, whether an operator is included, travel, minimum hire periods and site conditions. A small mini crane for a few hours costs far less than a large mobile crane for a full day. For glass work, it also depends on whether a vacuum lifter and rigging crew are needed. The best way to get a reliable figure is to ask for a quote based on your actual job.

How much does it cost to hire a 60-tonne crane?

A 60-tonne mobile crane is a large machine, so hire rates are higher and usually come with minimum hire periods, travel charges and sometimes traffic control costs. Most glass installs don't need that kind of capacity. Panels typically weigh hundreds of kilograms, and the challenge is access and precision rather than weight. A compact crane set up close to the lift is often cheaper and safer than a big crane reaching over a house.

    Who manufactures glass in Australia?

Architectural glass used in Australian homes and commercial buildings comes through a supply chain of manufacturers, importers and local glass processors, who cut, toughen, laminate and double glaze it to order. Your glazier or glass supplier will usually handle sourcing. As a glass lifting company, we don't supply the glass. We work with the glaziers and suppliers who do, getting their finished panels safely from the truck into the frame.
